The Catfish, a member of the Siluridae family, is the largest freshwater fish and can be found in most rivers. Although its average length is around 1.5 meters, it can reach up to 2.70 meters and weigh around 130 kg. In large rivers where food is abundant, it can reach impressive sizes. It prefers rivers with deep, calm waters, where it often hangs out in damping zones or pools. Catfish have a very varied diet, feeding on almost anything they can find: live or dead fish, worms, crayfish, molluscs, birds and aquatic mammals. The main Catfish fishing techniques include live bait, dead bait, soft lure, pellet, worm, popper or fireball. Start configuration

Matching blanks

Once shod, this river giant is a solid fighter. With its serpentine shape, it gives everything it's got and uses its weight to stay on the bottom. Once the fish has taken off, the hardest part is over. Whether you fish from a boat or a float tube, the battle is not the same. The fish drags the angler and his boat along. In a float tube, you have to paddle to get the best out of the towed buoy. Fortunately, however, not all Catfish are two-metre monsters, and there are rivers where the fish are clearly smaller. Sitting anglers will prefer shorter Blanks for more power. It's up to you whether you want to recut the blank at the butt or not. In our experience, the RCLB 70XL with a 10cm heel cut is perfect for Catfish fishing with a float tube lure. Anglers targeting predators such as Zander / Pike-perch frequently come across Catfish. The equipment is put to the test, but with a little patience the fish rise, as in the case of a two-metre Catfish reeled with a 62MX (5-15g rod). Catfish have a fleshy mouth, hooks bite well and it's rare to unhook a catfish. Usually either the line breaks or the fish is reeled in. Here's a selection of three Rainshadow Blanks suitable for both lure and Live bait fishing. What they have in common is that they're precise enough for animation, progressive enough not to tire you out too much, and have plenty of reserve power at the tail.

  1. SWS 70M2m13 30-100g, 200g max verti. Blank suitable for lure fishing. Designed for small to medium-sized fish.
  2. RCLB70XL Blank : 2m13 50-150g. A blank with a fast, supple tip thanks to fibreglass. It is very tapered and therefore has a large power reserve. This is a highly appreciated reference which has already proved its worth on a 2m58 fish. Perfect for targeting fish of all sizes.
  3. RCLB 70ML 2m13 150-300g: A more powerful blank for big Catfish with big lures or for live bait on the float. Chub, bream, take what's most abundant on your rivers, that's what will work best.

Compatible guides

We offer 3 different Fuji Guide Finishing ring packs, corresponding to different budgets and frequencies of use. The first segment of the range is occupied by Alconite ceramic Guides with Inox reinforcement, offering excellent value for money and suitable for occasional use. The Guide frame is made of Inox with an anti-corrosion coating. The Alconite ceramic provides good glide and a high heat dissipation rate for the braid, but take care not to spool dry fly braid onto these guides. The second level of the range is occupied by SIC ceramic and Inox-framed Guides. In this Guide range, the frame is still made of coated stainless steel, but the ceramic is made of Fuji SIC, which offers better glide and greater resistance. The final pack features Guides with Titanium frames and Torzite ceramics. Titanium is very light and completely insensitive to corrosion. Torzite is Fuji's top-of-the-range ceramic. It is very fine, solid and offers the best glide.
