Product description
Our take on the Magnum Super Fluke
This is the XL version of the most copied soft jerkbait on the market, and moving up to 7" changes the nature of the session: you stop chasing numbers and start chasing size. The slotted belly and the forked tail produce wide darts and long glides, with a hovering descent on the pause. If you have hit a ceiling with a standard fluke on educated, well-fed fish, this is the size to try next.
The Magnum Super Fluke at a glance
- 7" long (about 178 mm), the largest size in the Super Fluke range
- Salt-impregnated plastic for casting weight and for holding the bite
- Slotted belly designed to seat the hook flush
- Forked tail behind the darting and the knuckleball action
- Pack of 5 lures
- Rigs: weightless, weighted hook, inserts, jig head, darter head, Texas rig, Carolina rig
- Profile modelled on a large shad or a big perch
- Species: black bass, sea bass, pike
On the water
Weightless on top, weighted to go down
Rigged without lead on an offset hook, the Magnum Super Fluke skims the surface, breaking left and right with every stroke of the rod tip, then gliding sideways as soon as you give it slack. The density of the salted plastic gives it enough weight for long casts, which counts when you are covering wide flats or weed beds from the boat. Add a weighted hook, inserts or a light jig head and the same lure works a metre or two deeper, as a soft jerkbait, over deep spots. That dual reading makes it one of the most versatile lures for black bass to keep in the box.
When size makes the difference
Moving up to 7" is not about fishing faster, it is about filtering. When fish are keyed on wide prey, big shad in late summer or year-class perch that have grown bulky, a standard fluke often goes unnoticed where the Magnum triggers. The trade-off is well known: bites are fewer, and you have to let the fish take the lure properly before setting, which the salt in the plastic helps by delaying rejection. On the rigging side, a wide, strong offset hook set perfectly straight in the belly slot remains the baseline for a clean hook-up on a lure of this volume.
