NFC MB 807 HM, the blank for medium drift and lift fishing.

By Benjamin Le Provost

The choice of rod for Drift and lift fishing, whether at sea or in Freshwater fishing, is essential. The characteristics you're looking for are:

  • Length approx. 2m 40 m;
  • Great sensitivity and resonance to feel your lure work and contact with the bottom;
  • Power reserve to be able to take a big fish out of the current.

The MAG BASS (MB) series from NFC in 8' (2.43m) length perfectly meets these expectations!

At Rodhouse, this series is available in 5 models to cover a very wide range of uses (10/30 - 15/40 - 15/50 - 20/70 - 30/80).

For medium-drag fishing, the NFC MB 807HM is the perfect weapon.

This 8-foot blank is rated at 15-50gr. It allows you to use leaded lure-head sets up to 60-70 gr if you don't overpower the cast. Beyond that, the NFC MB 809 is preferred.

Pro-staff tip: On MB NFC series, to avoid overlapping power ranges, it's best to skip 1 reference between 2 blanks: Example bundle: MB 805 - MB 807- MB 809

When you pick up this blank, two things immediately jump out:

  • its light weight, at just 73 grams, is a real comfort when fishing all day with this rod. The mounted rod will not exceed 150 grams.
  • Its tapering with an imposing 16.9 mm butt and 2.2m tip. This feature, typical of the NFC firm, provides an incredible power reserve.

And for fishing?

Armed with a reel in sizes 4000 to 5000 (the biomaster 4000 suits it very well!), the package remains light and pleasant to use over a full day.

From the very first casts, we can see that it excels in this area. Well loaded, it reaches impressive distances. A great asset for Drift and lift fishing... Generally speaking, all MB blanks from NFC are good casters, but in 8', it becomes indecent.

The feedback is excellent. The vibrations of a 120 shad are really well felt, even at the end of a long distance cast. Imagine the bites! Armed with a Black minnow 120 or 140 and 25g of TP, it's a real treat!

The HM models from North Fork Composites offer the best resonance available on the market. We're talking high-performance here! The IM models are still very well made, but the HM is the very top of the range.

Fight the fish with authority!

It's in combat and especially with a pretty fish that it speaks its mind. With this blank we're confident when faced with a beautiful fish. Indeed, with the 807, it's easy to work a fish and take maximum Pleasure in admiring the curve of the blank. But if the situation calls for it, its reserve of power means you can tighten the brake and take the fish out with authority.

As you can see, this blank is a must-have for Drift and lift fishing. The 807's big assets are its lightness, its ability to satellite lures, its exceptional resonance (especially on HM) and its power reserve. A dream come true...
