If you're new to rod Assembly, you'll almost certainly need a few tips on choosing the right rings. In this article, you'll discover a few tips that will get you off to a good start with your rod Assembly.
A simple method for choosing your rings?
There's no miracle method for choosing the right rings for your fishing rod. As a general rule, it all depends on what you're going to use them for. Beginner riggers can use the FUJI specifications (see link) as a guide. These specifications indicate a number of rings, the spacing in relation to the tip, as well as a ring size. It's a great way to build a safe, reliable rod, especially for someone new to Assembly.
.For slightly more experienced riggers or for those who like a challenge, you should know that there is no specific ring size or mandatory spacing. If you want to build your own fishing rod, it's also because you want to create a rod that's just like you. To build your own fishing rod is to have freedom and benefit from great adaptability to each user and above all to each fishing style, because in the end, it's this last point that matters most.
The basics of choosing your rings
As you can see, you choose your rings according to your fishing style. The best thing is to respect certain basics that apply to all types of rod, and then think of something that suits you. Here are the basics:
- A large number of rings will soften the blanks and best fit its shape;
- Smaller rings closer to the blank allow the line to be less loose, closer to the blank with more tension, offering better impact retransmission;
- Smaller rings combined with lighter blanks induce less weight and therefore greater resonance. Don't forget that rings also contribute to the overall weight of your rod;
Rodhouse's advice
On a rod designed for casting, we recommend a 30 or 25 as the first ring. Then opt for a 16, a 12 and smaller rings as you get closer to the tip. Finally, you'll need a top with an outward-facing frame to avoid tangles.
