The story of the brand

From eagle talons to TroKar points

Eagle Claw was born in 1925 in Denver, Colorado. Drew McGill and Stan Wright set up the Wright & McGill company that year. According to the brand's history, McGill watched eagles catching fish on the upper Colorado River. The shape of their talons inspired a hook with a curved point. The Eagle Claw name was registered in 1938.

Several generations of the McGill family have run the business, and its headquarters are still in Denver. The TroKar range takes the original idea in a new direction. Its triangular point is sharpened on three edges, using a patented process inspired by surgical tools. In 2023, Wright & McGill also started building a new plant in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

Today Eagle Claw brings together several brands, including Lazer Sharp, Wright & McGill and TroKar. Rodhouse selects four TroKar Texas rig hooks, from the TK110 to the weighted TK170. They are designed for rigging soft plastic lures for predator fishing.

Start from the size of your lure and the power of your fishing. The TK110 EWG Worm, in fine wire from 1/0 to 4/0, suits subtle presentations. The TK120 Magworm, in heavy wire from 3/0 to 5/0, is made for power fishing.

For big swimbaits, the unweighted TK160 swims close to the surface. The weighted TK170, with 10.5 g of lead, takes lures from 15 to 24 cm.

Eagle Claw and the TroKar range

Rodhouse offers a selection of Texas rig hooks from the Eagle Claw TroKar range. These models are made for rigging soft plastic lures Texas style. They target predator fishing, both at sea and in fresh water. Seabass, bass, zander and pike are among the target species. Every model is forged, with a ringed eye and a platinum black finish.

What they share is the point. It is cut into a triangle, then sharpened along all three edges. Eagle Claw calls this process Surgically Sharpened Technology. The aim is easier penetration when you set the hook.

Choosing a TroKar Texas rig hook

The right model depends mainly on the size of your lure and the power of your rod. Here is how to find your way through the four models we stock.

TK110 EWG Worm: fine wire, sizes 1/0 to 4/0, for subtle presentations.
TK120 Magworm: heavy wire, sizes 3/0 to 5/0, for power fishing.
TK160 Magnum Swimbait: unweighted, sizes 3/0 to 7/0, for a slow swim just below the surface.
TK170 Magnum Swimbait weighted: size 7/0 with 10.5 g of lead, for lures from 15 to 24 cm.

The TK170 holds the lure with a corkscrew spring that screws into the head. The other models use a Z-bend that locks the lure on the shank. Packs contain 3 to 7 hooks depending on model and size.
