The story of the brand

From a hook workshop in Miki to saltwater lures

In March 1959, Hayato Tajiri opens a hook workshop in Miki, in Hyogo Prefecture. The business bears his name: Tajiri Hayato Shoten. The Banshu region has lived from metalwork for centuries, and the workshop draws on this local skill.

In the early years, someone close to him suggests selling sabiki rigs. Hayato Tajiri brings them to market and slowly makes them the house specialty. In April 1970, the business becomes a corporation and takes the name Hayabusa.

Today, Hayabusa still makes hooks and sabiki rigs. It also designs saltwater lures, such as the Jack Eye jigs and the Free Slide tai rubbers. The company created FREEKNOT, a clothing brand. In 2025, it opens OPEN SPACE in Miki: a former school turned into a fishing leisure site, with an indoor pond.
