Our take

The Fuji IPS16 is a comfortable, extremely reliable reel seat. With it, you won't end up with a loose reel. For us, the diameter in the hand is spot on, not too thick and not too thin!

Thread up, thread down or no-forgrip: 3 ways to build it

Standard, reversed or no fore grip

The thread can face up or down, so a reversed build is possible. You can also build it as a no-forgrip, with nothing above the thread. To finish it cleanly, you have two options.

• Replace the clamping nut with a KDPS16 (quick lock), which can be dressed with EVA foam for quick locks.
• Insert a size 16 shim inside the reel seat, then close the thread with a B-WC16, WCS16, TRCSTG16.5 or TVS16-SS ring.

Small tip: the KDPS16 takes the place of the original nut, it does not go on top of it. Simple, right?

15 mm inside diameter: which blanks is it for?

With its 15 mm inside diameter, the IPS16 suits blanks that are not too powerful and not too tapered. On a beefier blank, the diameter will quickly be too tight, and you will need a bigger reel seat. That is the limit of this model, at least you know where you stand.

For the handle, it goes with IPS16 grips in EVA, cork or carbon. Easy to build and high quality, it is a reel seat without the headaches, nothing tricky about it.
