The story of the brand

Kil Song, the Cape Cod Special and giant tuna

Black Hole USA starts with a Korean factory. NS Black Hole was founded in 1988 and makes rods for saltwater and freshwater. In 2010, the brand reached the United States with the Cape Cod Special, a jigging and popping series designed by Kil Song.

Kil Song designed and tested the prototypes before their release on the American market. The blanks are designed in the United States, then made by NS in Korea. In 2016, a bluefin tuna of more than 1,000 pounds was landed stand-up on a Cape Cod Special 450 g, off Prince Edward Island. The fight lasted about an hour.

Since then, Black Hole USA has extended this approach to series for jigging, popping, surf casting and big game fishing. The Cow Special targets tuna of several hundred pounds. The common thread is still that of the Cape Cod Special: light rods, built to last through long fights.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything about the brand

Who makes Black Hole USA rods and blanks?

Black Hole USA blanks are designed in the United States. They are made by the NS Black Hole factory in Korea. This company, founded in 1988, produces rods for both saltwater and freshwater.

The Cape Cod Special series was created by Kil Song, who designed and tested its prototypes. It reached the American market in 2010.

What is Black Hole USA Nano Carbon?

Nano Carbon is the carbon used on several Black Hole USA series, including the Cape Cod Special. It pairs a nano-silica resin with a high-strength carbon fiber.

Black Hole USA combines it with WXW (Wide X-Wrapping): strips of carbon wound in an X pattern around the blank. This build adds strength and reserve power without making the rod heavier.

What kinds of fishing does Black Hole USA design its rods for?

Black Hole USA designs its tackle for saltwater fishing for powerful fish. Its series cover jigging, popping, surf casting and big game trolling.

The Cape Cod Special was born for jigging and popping. The Cow Special targets very large yellowfin and bluefin tuna. Several series have a parabolic action, which spreads the load during long fights.

A brand built around big saltwater fish

Black Hole USA is an American brand of rods and rod blanks for saltwater fishing. It designs its tackle for very powerful fish, such as tuna and giant trevally. Its series cover jigging, popping, surf casting and big game trolling.

Each series has a clear job. The Cape Cod Special is aimed at heavy jigging and popping. The Cow Special is built for tuna weighing several hundred pounds. The Giant, Overkill and Nano Heavy series follow the same focus on strength. The brand also sells its series as bare blanks for rod builders.

How Black Hole USA builds its blanks

The blanks are designed in the United States. They are made in Korea by the NS Black Hole factory. The brand aims for a clear balance: a light rod that keeps a large reserve of power. To get there, it relies on three technical choices.

Nano Carbon, which pairs a nano-silica resin with a high-strength carbon fiber.
WXW (Wide X-Wrapping), strips of carbon laid in an X pattern that reinforce the blank without adding weight.
Parabolic or moderate fast actions, which spread the load along the whole rod.

This approach serves a simple goal: lasting through long fights with big fish. A parabolic action puts less strain on the angler's back. The lower weight also makes the rod easier to hold through hours of jigging or casting.
