There are many braids on the market, and it's difficult for a neophyte to know on which criteria to base his choice, and which are guarantees of quality. Almost a year ago, the Prodigy braid, developed and signed by the Rodhouse company, appeared in the columns of the merchant site and equipped many bobbins. Thanks to multiple and varied tests and abundant feedback, Prodigy braid now boasts an excellent reputation among anglers, who recognize its innumerable qualities. Here are the reasons for its success!
History
Today, Rodhouse does not confine itself to developing and distributing products exclusively dedicated to Rodbuilding. So, as part of its drive to diversify and satisfy all its customers' needs in terms of fishing tackle, Rodhouse has developed its own 8-strand braid in collaboration with a Chinese company that manufactures its own PE (Polyethylene, the material making up this accessory) and specializes in braiding this fishing tackle.
After analyzing and testing numerous samples from their range, they designed a new product combining the qualities of two existing products in their range. One had a remarkable roundness and the other a coating ensuring exceptional gliding properties.
Respecting diameters
Before discussing braid diameters, it's important to remember that PE is simply an abbreviation for polyethylene, which is the material used in modern braids. It is the number associated with it that defines the diameter of the product, and this applies not only to braids, but also to nylons and fluorocarbons on the Japanese market.
This value is far more accurate and real than the diameters advertised in hundredths of a millimeter by many manufacturers.
For example, the diameter of a #0.8 braid or monofilament is 14.8/100 mm. Similarly, PE0.6, PE1, PE1.2 and PE1.5 braids will have diameters of 0.128mm, 0.165mm, 0.185 and 0.205mm respectively.
As far as Prodigy X8 braid is concerned, precise Palmer (micrometer) observation of numerous samples by Rodhouse and also by external, independent bodies, has enabled us to check the quality of the braid, the profile and also the diameter produced. It turns out that the difference between the actual diameter and that advertised is less than 3%, which is a guarantee of quality and reliability.
Tight weave and round profile
In addition, thanks to its experience in the design of quality braids, the company, which works in collaboration with Rodhouse, favors a slow rotation speed in the manufacture of their products to ensure tight braiding. This manufacturing process, which is obviously much more costly than fast weaving, is also a real guarantee of quality, as it determines not only the product's regularity over its entire length, but also its suppleness, roundness and strength.
All glide and silence
As mentioned in the introduction, Rodhouse's aim in designing the Prodigy X8 braid was to offer a quality product combining the qualities of various items in the manufacturer's range. A special "Ice Blue" coating was selected, once again praised by users and independent testers alike for its gliding qualities, resistance and stability over time.
This coating ensures glide and silence in use, maximizing casting distances and optimum water penetration for line control and feedback.
Proven diameter-to-strength ratio
Because this is undoubtedly one of the most important criteria for all consumers, Prodigy braid has been developed with increased linear resistance in mind. As a result, tests have demonstrated reliable values that rank among the best products available on the market. Tests carried out by independent websites on a sample of Prodigy PE1 braid show a minimum resistance of 17.5lbs, which is well above that of 30/100 fluorocarbon, the maximum diameter generally used with braid of this size. So, with a mastered and reliable connection knot, you can be sure of a reliable assembly with no weak points.
I feed-back dei clienti
After only half a season on the market, the Prodigy X8 braid has already earned a solid reputation among anglers and other players in the fishing industry. All are unanimous on the above-mentioned qualities and praise the product's value for money. Indeed, you'll be able to see on the various forums, social networks and specialist sites that the opinions are numerous and converge in every respect. When you consider the average price of braids on the market, Rodhouse's price of 30 euros for a 150-meter spool, or 45 euros for a 300-meter spool, is a real bargain.
In addition to feedback, for the more curious among you, I invite you to browse this interesting topic (https://rodhouse.com/blogs/rodbuilding/tresse-peche) explaining the protocols of the tests carried out to define and compare the quality of different braids.
The range
The Prodigy X8 braid is now available exclusively from Rodhouse in 5 different sizes, from PE0.6 to PE1.5, and in 3 different packages. 1000m spools are available for the whole range, while the 3 thinner diameters are available in 150m and the 2 larger diameters in 300m. All this for a price ranging from 29.90 to 98 euros, i.e. less than 10 centimes per meter!
