Hookook grew out of a group of anglers and fishing guides. They release most of their catch and always free endangered species. For the fish they keep, they adopted ikejime, a Japanese method of killing fish. Their aim: every fish taken should be killed quickly and without needless suffering.
The brand chose to devote itself entirely to this technique. It designs a tekagi for the brain and needle kits for the spinal cord, from size XS to size XL. Its handles are made of recycled rubberwood and its floats of cork. Most of its tools float, so they leave no waste at sea.
Today Hookook wants to bring ikejime to as many people as possible. It publishes a guide to good practice and shares its knowledge with recreational anglers and seafood professionals alike. For its founders, a fish killed cleanly is also a fish whose flesh keeps better.
