The story of the brand

From the Omura workshop to Torzite rings

Fuji Kogyo goes back to a workshop founded in 1938 by Rintaro Omura, under the name Omura Seisakusho. The company took the name Fuji Kogyo in 1945 and turned to fishing tackle. In 1951, it released its plate reel seats, which rinse out easily when sand gets in. The first Fuji guide followed in 1955.

In 1964, Fuji registered the first guide design in the industry and launched the Ceraguide, a ceramic ring. The brand has worked on rings ever since. Silicon carbide rings came in 1981. In 2013, Fuji brought out Torzite, a ceramic made for guide rings.

Today, Fuji designs its new components in Kikugawa, in Shizuoka Prefecture. Its research center opened there in 2015. Its guides, reel seats and wrapping thread are found on spinning, casting, fly and saltwater rods.

Who founded the Fuji brand?

Fuji is the brand of Fuji Kogyo, a Japanese company. Its roots go back to 1938, when Rintaro Omura set up the Omura Seisakusho workshop. In 1945, the company became Fuji Kogyo and began to make fishing tackle.

Its first reel seats came out in 1951. The first Fuji guide followed in 1955.

What is Fuji Torzite?

Torzite is a ceramic that Fuji launched in 2013. The brand made it for one use only: the ring of a rod guide. It is lighter and tougher than silicon carbide, or SiC.

Fuji also made the ring section thinner. At the same wall thickness, a Torzite ring has a larger inner diameter than a SiC ring.

What is the Fuji KR Concept?

The KR Concept is a guide layout method from Fuji. The brand designed it for braided line. The first guides, with high frames, quickly narrow the cone of line coming off the reel. A run of small guides then leads the line to the tip.

This layout relies on Fuji K frames, which are shaped so that loops of line come free on their own.

Fuji, a Japanese maker of rod parts

Fuji is the brand of Fuji Kogyo, a Japanese company based in Shizuoka Prefecture. It designs the parts that go on a fishing rod. Its range covers rod guides, tip tops, reel seats and wrapping thread. These parts are used in many kinds of fishing. You find them on spinning, casting, fly and carp rods. They also go on surf rods and on rods for sea fishing.

The reel seat is the oldest rod part the brand makes. Guides came soon after. Today they come with several ring types, such as Alconite, a ceramic lighter than aluminum oxide.

How Fuji makes its parts

Fuji works first on the material of its rings. A guide ring must be hard and smooth. It must also stand the heat of the line as it rubs. The brand has used ceramic since the 1960s. It then moved to silicon carbide, and later to Torzite. This ceramic was made for guide rings alone. It is thinner and lighter than a SiC ring.

Fuji also shapes its frames and sets where guides go on the blank. Its K frames let loops of line slide forward. The loops then come free on their own. The KR Concept was made for braided line. It pairs high frame reduction guides with a run of small guides.
