Fuji DPS: a simple and effective reel seat.

When defining the elements of your future fishing rod, the choice of reel seat is a question in its own right. Rodhouse offers a great choice of reel seats, different brands, different models. We'll choose it for its look, its grip, technical features like size, sturdiness, but also for its weight.

Today, I wanted to introduce you to a simple but terribly effective reel carrier: the Fuji DPS.

Small, but big!

The Fuji DPS is a small reel seat that doesn't look like much but has many qualities. The big plus, in my opinion, is its weight! In fact, because of its construction, there's no superfluous material. Just a threaded tube, some bushes and that's it.

Reel holder - size Weight (gr)
DPS - 16 16.3
IPS - 16 14.9
VSS - 16 22 approx.
Skeleton - 16 16.3

The fundamental difference with an IPS or VSS is that this reel seat is not covered by a grip. By fitting a small rear grip, you'll end up with a lighter unit than with an IPS, for example.

The DPS is a sturdy reel seat that can also be found on rods designed for strong fishing such as Catfish or exo. It is available in a wide range of sizes, from 16 to 24 for the biggest blanks.

Assembly

The Fuji DPS is a very easy-to-mount reel seat. Like many PM spinning reels, all you have to do is glue a shim inside, reamer it to fit the diameter of the blank and glue it in place.

It can be mounted in either direction, i.e. clamping ring up, or down, depending on the rodbuilder's wishes.

In sizes 16 and 17, the clamping ring can remain the original one and, once the screw thread is recut, will finally make a no fore grip assembly.

The clamping screw can also be replaced by a KDPS, also recuttable, which will be dressed with a chosen decoration: a cork grip, some rings, carbon tube...

In the case of a no fore grip assembly, ideal for having your finger on the blank, you can close the tube with a D16FR type ring, or even a small Fuji WCS.

Despite its basic, I'd say neo-retro look, this is the reel seat I chose for its lightness and robustness when assembling the IMMWS62L, a rod designed for Perch which boasts a final weight of 57.6grs.

You'll find many examples of assemblies made with this reel seat on the following topic. Catfish, exo, fly, small predators as well as big ones, nothing resists the Fuji DPS! https://www.rodhouse.fr/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=6151&hilit=DPS
