The Pike is a mythical fish, the fighter plane of European freshwater, the ultimate river predator. Fast, discreet and gifted with excellent eyesight, the Pike is one of the first predators caught by the novice angler. This catch will remain engraved in his memory. Renowned for its lightning-fast attack and its ability to swallow large prey, the Pike is the object of an immutable quest towards the mythical bar of the metre pike.

Jerkbaits are hard lures, floating or not, which must be animated by the angler, with fairly dry strokes of the rod, even if some people animate them on the reel with jerky retrieves. Not to be confused with minnow jerkbaits, which are more tapered, lighter and fitted with a lip. If there's one model that's well known and recognized in the jerkbait family, it's theBuster jerk. It can be easily animated and triggers attacks from big fish. It also has a very distinctive sound. Pike fishing with a Buster jerk requires the use of a blank with precise characteristics in order to be able to practice this technique effectively and throughout the day. It must be sufficientlypowerful for casting lures between 30 and 80g. It must beshortBetween 1m80 and 2m00 is ideal. This length is equally suited to float-tubing, boating or fishing from the shore, to comfortably animate the lure. It's in this position that you can really get inside the lure. A short heel is also preferable, so as not to be hindered during animation. As far as action is concerned, you need a hard blank, one that won't absorb animation but will transmit each jerk into the line. On the other hand, a rather round action is preferable in the fight to avoid stalling and to cushion the head strikes of our friends the Pike once hooked. In short: a stiff blank for animation, but not for fighting. We have selected 4 blanks for this purpose.

  1. Rodbuilders' Republic MAMA BUSTER : 1m82 30-100g. Blank distributed under the Rodbuilders' republic brand, manufactured by NFC. It is distributed specifically for this technique and has become THE reference for this practice.
  2. NFC MB 669 SM Length : 1m98 30-100g. For anglers who prefer to animate hard lures with more length, the 669 is a very good alternative.
  3. NFC MB 669-1 IM 1m98, 30-100g. For float tube anglers who want a good compromise between jerkbait and soft swimbait, this IM carbon blank is ideal.
  4. Rainshadow REVC68XH 2m03, 50-120g: This blank is suitable for larger jerkbaits, such as Guppie, Big Bandit, etc...

When fishing for Pike with fairly heavy lures, we prefer theCastingthe spinning reel. This makes for more accurate casts, cushions the lure on impact, gives a lighter reel for greater power and a better wrist position. Short butts are preferable for comfortable casting, but it's up to you to set the rod to your own length. As for the choice of cork or EVA, it's a matter of taste... Don't hesitate to give us the desired length between butt and reel trigger so that we can adjust the ferrules. You can also ask us to change the color of the handle kit rings (while stocks last).

For this practice, we are once again opting for an Assembly inspiral casting. This rotating Brazilian Assembly prevents the braid from touching the blank and means fewer rings on the blank, saving weight. We offer 3Guide packs Fuji of different finishes, corresponding to different budgets and frequencies of use. The first segment of the range is occupied by GuideAlconite ceramics and Inox frameworksThey offer excellent value for money and are ideal for occasional use. The frame of these Guides is made of Inox with an anti-corrosion coating. The Alconite ceramic provides good glide and a high heat dissipation rate for the braid, but take care not to spool dry fly braid onto these guides. The second level of the range is occupied by Guide with armature.Inox and SIC ceramics. In this Guide range, the frame is still made of coated stainless steel, but the ceramic is made of Fuji SIC, which offers better glide and greater resistance. Finally, the top-of-the-range Fuji range is represented by Guide rings inTitanium-Torzite. The Titanium frame is much lighter and, above all, totally insensitive to corrosion. The ceramic is made of Torzite, another Fuji proprietary material that enables the braid to glide perfectly over the ceramic. This ultra-high-performance ceramic requires less material, so smaller tunnel rings can be used. Less weight = greater sensitivity and performance.
