Today we present the start of an open series of articles written by rodbuilders, about their passion. These articles will cover all types of fishing, as well as different aspects and points of view inherent to these fisheries. They will be focus articles written by specialists in their discipline, in connection with rodbuilding of course ... but not only... Inauguration of the series today by Edouard Monchy aka edlepecheur, moderator on Rodhouse forums and member of the Rodhouse team. " Since July/August I'd been finding the Trouts tricky, careful not to take too many of my spinners or small PNs in my mouth just to make me rage at every ironing in the void. Nothing helped, I went through in 16 hundredths, changed spoon size (to smaller), PN color. There's always a time in the season when lady fario gets a little cranky, but this is starting to last and it's getting on my nerves .... style. Racking my brains, just after I'd seen a nice one give me the wind, I rummaged through my lure kit and found a little waver from Illex: the AWB YORK color YAMAME in 3.5grs that had never yet seen the water. [caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="580"]AWB YORK MINI ILLEX AWB YORK MINI[/caption] This little ripple caught my eye when I went shopping at the start of the season. It's armed with a single fine iron hook (too much for my taste, I broke it unhooking a Trout with my pliers ^^) with micro barb (very effective and doesn't damage the fish). I took the 3.5grs model, but it comes in 3 sizes: 1.5grs/2grs/3.5grs. It's in the Illex catalog (page 80) and comes in 5 colors (ayu, yamame, rainbowtrout, black and gold and pearl candy).

So I decide to hang this beautiful earring on my clip and we'll see what happens ... First cast in front of my beautiful rebel's post, a bit confusing as a lure... Jerk or not, straight retrieve or not, we'll see what happens... The water is clear and I can see my ripple moving well. Even on the descent, it flutters with a devastating rolling action and fishes by itself. My AWB YORK MINI arrives on the spot, I see the Trout come out like a fury and give the undulator a big bang, I hook up, "FISH ON !!!!" as Cyril Chauquet so aptly puts it. A pretty fish in great shape and plenty of fat. Since this demonstration of efficiency, she's done the whole end of the season, I've hooked her systematically at the end of my line with more than convincing results. This rippler saved my end of season with quite a few fish to its credit, including a beautiful 42cm granny on closing day (which, for my river, is a very nice fish). After several attempts at animation, I think I've found the right one: I cast upstream and retrieve by slowly raising the tip of my rod and lowering it while reeling to give a sawtooth movement and, above all, I accompany the lure well on its descent (this is often when the attack occurs). This undulating lure can be animated in several ways with the same efficiency: straight retrieve / Cast and retrieve, quick twitch, inert drifting just in front of the supposed target with just a few taps of the tip to liven things up (as you would with a handled minnow). The only drawback I can find is the PLOUFFFF it makes when it enters the water. The trick to limiting this "grenade" cast is to re-click the reel pickup and attack the retrieve before the lure touches the surface. This considerably limits the impact on the surface. I use this weight in a relatively slow-moving flat river with a maximum of 1.50 m of water in the biggest pools, so the 3.5grs is a bit heavy. I'll try the 2 and 1.5 next season. The 3.5grs will be more in its element in faster, deeper rivers. I've used this lure with my RX8 XSW 62L and also my RX7 ISB720, which can comfortably handle the 3.5grs of this little undulator. Rainshadow RX7 ISB 720 I really like and recommend this compact, dense little lure that casts like a charm. I'm thinking of expanding my ripple collection for next season, trying out other colors (the Black & Gold should be a killer) and other weights (plus a few LS but that's another story)! Edlepecheur
