Rainshadow 68UL: The blank for Trout!
By Edouard Monchy.New season, new course, new river, wider than "my" usual river and above all wading FORBIDDEN!!!
I needed a blank that would allow me to fish easily from the shore without getting too close to the water and control the drift of my lure. In fact, that's where the 54UL finds its limits (size does matter...).
Without hesitation, I ordered the REVS 68UL from Rainshadow. Rated for 2/7 grs, this little 32-grs foil (bare blank), with a slight taper, will be perfect for precision casting of my small PNs, #1 and #2 sheets, and soft lures! For the assembly, I followed the example of its little brother, the REVS 54UL, with an EVA handle, a green Metallic reel seat and Wrapping in the same spirit. For the rings, I chose Gunsmoke for discretion and sobriety of assembly. The only difference is that it will be fitted with a Full handle:
- Aesthetically, I find it nicer on a "long" blank;
- Having a fairly short reel-butt distance (28 cm), the full EVA brings a little weight on the bottom of the rod and balances the whole well.

This blank is really spoon-typical: fast but not stiff at all, allowing you to fish small diameters (14 or 16/100) while remaining serene when a nice fario is at the other end of the line. As I only fish for Trout with nylon, this point is important!
Small sinking and floating swimming fish between 2.5 and 5.5 grs also cast accurately despite their low grammage. The same is true when, at the end of the season, I use small soft lures (TP from 3 to 6grs), wobblers or PowerTail from Fiiish. Below 2 grs, it gets complicated.
The 203cm of this blank is a serious asset and drift control is simplified. You know the hollow bank on the opposite shore licked by a vein of current that smells of Trout? This blank allows me to pass the lure correctly along the entire length of the drift. It's exactly what I've been looking for!
The REVS68UL isn't as resonant as the IMMWS or ETES series, but it's still more than enough, especially when you consider that Trout don't go into detail when it comes to tapping into a lure.
How does this rod perform in combat? The action is round and allows you to have Pleasure on a 25 cm fish and control a 40 + that doesn't want to join me for a selfie (understandably ...).
Finally, an important point to mention is the fact that I had very few stalls with this blank even with single barbless hooks. This is certainly due to its suppleness which, even during capers, allows you to absorb head strikes and stay in contact with the fish.
Bref, a blank to indulge in Trout with unbeatable value for money.
