Rockfishing is divided into 2 families: Aji-fishing (Aji, in Japan, is a fish resembling horse mackerel) and mebaru-fishing (mebaru is a rock fish in Japan). Aji-fishing is a bit like what we call port-fishing, where we fish for horse mackerel, small Sea bass and pollack in harbours at night. Here, we're interested in rock fish, such as veils, gobies, blennies, Scorpionfish, serrans... It's all about wandering, observing and listening to detect the right spot. Although this type of fishing can be practised with baits such as mussels or periwinkles, for the sporting side we use micro soft lures on small lead heads. Start configuration

Matching blanks

This type of fishing takes place along docks, dykes and puddles. As a result, there's little or no casting distance to take into account, just sensitivity, flexibility and the ability to handle the lure precisely in near-vertical fishing. A fast to x-fast action is preferable to animate small lures with precision. On the other hand, there's no need to have a lot of reserve power in spite of the enthusiasm of these fish. This is a game of fishing, you have to make it bend! There are blanks designed for this purpose, but there are also blanks that can be used in a variety of situations.blanks UL used in freshwater for Trout will also be adapted.

  1. Rodbuilders' Republic PPS 54UL : 1m63, 1.5-7g : This Trout-style blank is an interesting reference for puddle fishing. Its short length makes it easy to animate a lure on sight in rifts.
  2. Matagi TR69 SuperRozy Figaro2m06, 0.3-3.5gr. This blank has been designed specifically for rockfishing. The full carbon tip is an asset for sensitivity. Its intermediate length makes it ideal for both puddle and rockfishing.
  3. Matagi TR74 Super Mebaru-L2m24, 0,4-4gr: Its name leaves no doubt as to the specifications behind its design. It also features a full carbon tip for maximum sensitivity. At 2m24, it's ideal for riprap fishing, dikes and other shelters requiring a long carbon tip.

Compatible guides

The fineness of the solid scions of the 2 Matagi blanks means that only 2 finishes can be offered.

For Rodbuilders' Republic Blanks, we've got 3 to choose fromGuide packs Fuji of different finishes, corresponding to different budgets and frequencies of use. The first segment of the range is occupied by GuideAlconite ceramics and Inox frameworksThey offer excellent value for money and are ideal for occasional use. The frame of these Guides is made of Inox with an anti-corrosion coating. The Alconite ceramic provides good glide and a high heat dissipation rate for the braid, but take care not to spool dry fly braid onto these guides. The second level of the range is occupied by Guide with armature.Inox and SIC ceramics. In this Guide range, the frame is still made of coated stainless steel, but the ceramic is made of Fuji SIC, which offers better glide and greater resistance. Finally, the top-of-the-range Fuji range is represented by Guide rings inTitanium-Torzite. The Titanium frame is much lighter and, above all, totally insensitive to corrosion. The ceramic is made of Torzite, another Fuji proprietary material that enables the braid to glide perfectly over the ceramic. This ultra-high-performance ceramic requires less material, so smaller tunnel guides can be used. Less weight = greater sensitivity and performance.
