Pike opening approaching, arm yourselves!
By Baptiste.
As every year, the opening is a great moment we all look forward to!!
The closing was, for our pikes, an opportunity to ensure their offspring. Males and females found themselves in the calm, shallow banks for spawning.
This period forced them to tap into their reserves, so they'll now be looking to refuel by feeding again. The good news is that the whites are in turn in the edges for spawning and the Pikes are there to take advantage of it...
After these few months of well-deserved rest, we can JERKER!
In principle, in May the water levels are still a little high, the current is quite strong in places and the waters are still a little tinted. So don't hesitate to get all those little people moving on the flats, and what better way to do that than jerkbait fishing with a Buster?
[caption id="attachment_516" align="aligncenter" width="800"] The Buster is a nice-sized lure that makes a heavy noise and displaces a lot of water, it's the perfect lure for the beginning of the season.[/caption]This lure really is a benchmark, but it does require suitable tackle. As such, you'll need a Casting rod specific to this technique to be able to fish and animate your lure correctly.
The ideal rod for jerkbait fishing.
I recommend a powerful rod, around 30-80, to propel the lure properly. I recommend a short rod for boat, float tube or shore fishing, for comfort when animating. A short butt is also preferable, to avoid snagging during animation. If your rod is too long, the tip may come into contact with the water and your animations will be more tiring. The right compromise for your height is between 1m80 and 2 m.
.Concerning action, you'll need a hard blank; by this I mean a rod that won't absorb animation but will transmit each Jerk back into the line.
For this technique I use a blank from Rainshadow, the REVC 68H.
[caption id="attachment_526" align="aligncenter" width="800"] With its fast action and power, the 68H is perfectly suited to jerkbait fishing![/caption]Although the blank is powerful, it quickly takes on a round action once under stress. This helps to avoid stalls by cushioning head strikes and allows you to have Pleasure on small subjects.
The blank is stiff enough for animation and not disproportionately tapered to distribute effort over its entire length in combat. The power reserve will allow you to stop the fish if necessary, a must for jerkbait fishing.
This versatile blank fits perfectly, you just need to recut it to the desired length.
Finally, you'll also find your happiness at Rodbuilder's Republic with the brand-new mama Buster provided for this purpose.
Good opening to all.
