Interview with Yoann Lebert:

Never without his homemade rods!

Hello Yoann, let's get straight to the Live bait. Why did you choose to fish with homemade rods? What's in it for you?

I work for the Delalande brand, which specializes in the manufacture of soft lures. As such, I absolutely need high-performance rods to get the maximum information on the evolution of my lure as close to the bottom as possible.

Fishing with customized rods perfectly adapted to the different techniques I practice is a real asset. I gain in both comfort and performance, and I can now say that regular use of these homemade rods gives me a better success rate on my outings.

If you had to choose just two, which blanks would you recommend for the fishing you do? Can you introduce them to us?

Great fan of North Fork Composites blanks for their ability to handle the big fights of our Mediterranean carnivores without losing resonance and sensitivity; choosing two blanks is difficult.

I think that for its versatility, my favorite goes to the NFC MB-705-HM.

This 2.13m / 7-28g One-piece surprises me every day. This blank was originally designed for shore fishing in harbours, Drift and lift fishing and Predatory fishing in freshwater.

This single-stranded lure surprises me every day. [caption id="attachment_766" align="aligncenter" width="800"] Yoann is a big fan of the NFC MB 705 HM. Who isn't?[/caption]

It's migrating more and more towards heavier boat-pull fishing on Dentex and Red bream / Porgy and accidentally on grouper. A sensitivity and resonance for me out of the ordinary to work the soft lure but above all a reserve of power that seems unlimited ...

My second choice would be the Tuna Express R710 (2.38m - 20/90g - 80lb). I received this rod fitted by our friend Thanh Hô (Bamboo rods) for the end of the tuna season last year, so I haven't had a chance to triturate it in every sense yet. The first fights are just bluffing. To reel in a 50 kg tuna in less than 15 minutes seemed impossible to me before... The Tuna does it for you, without tiring the angler. This rod allows me to take friends fishing with peace of mind. The other huge advantage of this blank is that it propels small lures to very long distances, ideal for tuna on the hunt.

Do you have any ideas for a future purchase?

Yes of course! I've already got lots of ideas for the future. Like Obelix, once you've fallen into the rodbuilding pot, you just can't get enough...

My projects are as follows:

    • NFC EFX MB-703-IM for more technical Zander / Pike-perch stalking and harbor fishing (redfish, squid, cuttlefish, ...);
  • NFC MB-809 HM for strong Drift and lift fishing. I want to use this rod in its high range with soft lures weighing around 80g. I also intend to use it for stronger fish such as amberjacks or small tunas (up to 15kg).
